A MOTHERS’ WORDS TO HER HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE.

Life is a series of experiences, it’s a journey. You must live your life the way you want to bring joy into your soul.

It’s your life, not mine, dad or anyone else’s. That means that you should live your life not regretting anything. In order to do that, you must develop a sense of perspicacity – having a keen sense and awareness about you; it means being shrewd and using your intelligence when you think something is not right.

Live with passion, creativity, humility and compassion.

Passion drives you; creativity will energize you; humility connects you to humanity and compassion reminds you of love for self and others.

You came through us but you do not belong to us, but the path you make on this journey will be traversed by others. Make it count, let us see the path that you choose light up and bring joy to self and others.

Just be yourself, let people see the real, imperfect, flawed, quirky, sophisticated, beautiful, magical person that you are. Give yourself permission to stand up and step out of any box of limitation that anyone dare to put in your way. No-one expects you, (name) to stay there.

You are on your way to a great institution, and you are exactly where you are meant to be. Enjoy the journey because the bridge (of time) between where you stand now and where I am, is not that far away. As you go across it, think on each experience and make it joyous.

Finally, my advice to you is to:

-          Keep smiling, (don’t ever stop that trademark smile I bestowed upon you)

-          You will make your own mistakes, but don’t get stuck in them.

-          Don’t stop caring for others

-          Be kind and courteous to all you meet

-          Be Present in the moment so that you can enjoy the gift that life keeps giving you.

I Love You.

*By the way, perspicacity is the ability to assess situations or circumstances shrewdly and to draw sound conclusions. It comes from the Latin word for penetrating sight.
